This section of the site has information on networking and contains a free JavaScript based TCP/IP subnet calculator. It has been listed in Webopedia and has been reviewed in Data Communications magazine in December 1997. I've lost my copy of the magazine, so if you have one you want to get rid of, please let me know! This is what they had to say:
Calculating IP subnet masks is one of the most basic yet most error-prone networking tasks. This site's subnet mask calculator takes the guesswork out of the process with a fill-in-the-blanks format: Users simply enter the network address, number of subnets or hosts per subnet, and presto - the site calculates the correct subnet masks to use. The site also distinguishes between network ID and host ID portions of IP address/subnet mask combinations.
The calculator is also referenced in the TCP/IP Resources List by Uri Raz and in the book 'Novell's Guide to Troubleshooting TCP/IP' released in October 1999 by IDG Books, Novell Press. It is written by Stephanie Lewis and Silvia Hagen. Check out Silvia's Sunny Connection web site.
If you have any suggestions for improving the calculators or have ideas for additional ones, send me an e-mail.
I've also added information on how to setup ATM addresses in Canada. After needing to do this for work and hearing stories that it was impossible to register a Canadian address, I started to do some digging around. After numerous searches on the web, and talking to the responsible U.S. agency, I finally figured out how to do it. After that, it was a quick and painless process to get our address registered. Best of all, it's free in Canada whereas it cost $1k in the U.S.
I've just added a book review section. It includes a book for which I was one of the official reviewers and others including TCP/IP and routing books.
